How I Was Instructed to Write my Essays

I've only graduated my freshman year in high school so far, but even so, my English teacher gave me enough essay assignments that I know what I'm talking about here.

From what I remember(as this was so long ago...), every time an essay would come up, my teacher would usually give the class 2-3 days of planning: the first for brainstorming, the second for a rough draft, and the third for peer revising and editing. The following day, or whenever it happened to come up, we would have to write the final copy—all in the span of one class period(which was in no way unexpected, considering the obvious lack of sympathy of the school district), which gave us all about 40 minutes to rewrite the entire thing as neatly as possible(as this was always stressed).

[Just a little side note... I am loving the layout of this website—plenty of orderly and easily understood icons to choose from at the top of the text box, and this is also compatible with my iPad. All I have to do is open a separate tab with an automatic word counter, and I'm good to go!]

  1. The first set of parenthesis, "as this was so long ago...", is completely unnecessary, as is the comment about the school district's lack of sympathy. This also doesn't say anything about how you researched for the essays. There are no examples, and everything is vague. "The teacher", "the school district", etc.

  2. Wow Alex, that was pretty harsh. As I have noticed Beth, you are a very spunky person. I happen to think that is pretty great. You are most definitely entitled to your opinion about things going on around. I enjoyed your blog post and I understand your stress and frustration.
